Sustainable Natural Gas Production

Hydrogen and CO2 can be converted into natural gas (methane) through a microbiological process: Hydrogen and carbon-dioxide are injected into a suitable natural gas reservoir, where naturally occurring microorganisms convert, within reasonably short time, these into gas (methanation). The gas is stored in the same reservoir and produced whenever required, facilitating a sustainable carbon cycle.

What we can do for you:

1.
Identify reservoirs suitable for conversion
to in-situ methanation

2.
Determine data acquisition requirements and
design data acquisition campaigns

3.
Assess for suitable geological conditions (depth, overburden cap rock, minor tectonic overprinting, etc.)

4.
Determine caprock and sealing capacity

5.
Perform lab experiments to determine favourable in-situ conditions
and identify potential adverse effects (pore clogging)

6.
Visualise the methanation process using our leading InspIOR microfluidic technology

7.
Describe, characterise, model and history match the
reservoirs planned for conversion to underground methanation

8.
Determine the capacity, injection and production profiles

9.
Assess the interaction with reservoir rock and fluids

10.
Determine location, trajectory and completion of wells

11.
Assess the subsurface risk of the operations and how to mitigate

12.
Design environmental monitoring (reservoir, groundwater, soil and atmosphere) procedures and related environmental management
