Evaluation of Volcanic Reservoirs (GEO59)

This course describes the most common geological characteristics of volcanic reservoirs and the tools and exploration workflow necessary in the evaluation of this play system. It will provide intermediate knowledge about volcanic rocks and reservoir, petrology, physical properties, pore and fracture systems, and geometry of different volcanic and volcano-sedimentary systems.
The main objectives of this course are:
    • to explain the common techniques to investigate and evaluate the reservoir characteristics
    • to analyse geophysical log dataset, in order to characterise the internal architecture of a volcanic reservoir
    • to predict the reservoir distribution in order to produce an integrated geological model and to decrease the risks.
    • Paper based exercises on integrated seismic and well logs dataset will be prepared to simulate an exploration workflow on a volcanic reservoir of the Pacific.

    Course Duration: 3 days

    Course Level: Foundation / Skill
    Instructor: Gabriele Lena
