Description

This course covers the steps in assessing results contained in special core analysis reports, and in particular those from relative permeability tests. This includes how to: (a) review laboratory reports, (b) assess the procedures used and (c) make refinements before use in reservoir simulation studies.
While the course focuses on relative permeability, capillary pressure concepts are also discussed. The link between relative permeability and rock type is illustrated. The course contains information that can be used to define relative permeability relationships when reliable laboratory results are not available.

  • The course covers such topics as coring operations and core preservation techniques. Laboratory measurement methods are also addressed, since results are affected by the techniques used and the test conditions
  • Reported results that were determined using acceptable laboratory procedures require adjustment or refinement, and an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses associated with the various testing methods is needed in doing this. The reasons that the results from steady-state and unsteady-state waterflooding tests are different is explained in this way
  • Using a comprehensive manual as reference, which includes numerous examples from the North Sea and elsewhere in the world
  • Delegates will work with a range of practical exercises including
    - Analysis and refinement of water-oil relative permeability data
    - Analysis and refinement of gas-oil relative permeability data
    - Analysis and use of primary drainage capillary pressure data
    - Identifying intervals with different rock types from routine core analysis data
